Ask your shop database questions in plain English

Connect a MySQL, MariaDB or PostgreSQL database and ask Claude for best sellers, customers who stopped ordering or stock running low. The connection starts read-only and stays that way unless you change it.

A ready-made GetMCP server: import the file, add your own key and ask. How to import it

Claudeyour-site.com/mcp

Which products sold best this quarter?

Tool call: list_tables

Tool call: run_query SELECT product, SUM(qty) ...

Your top three this quarter:

  • House blend, 1 kg: 412 sold
  • Pour-over kit: 186 sold
  • Decaf, 250 g: 151 sold

Want the same for last quarter, to compare?

What changes

The work is the same. Where you do it moves from a row of tabs to one conversation.

Before

  • Wait for someone who knows SQL
  • Export to a spreadsheet to answer one question
  • Rebuild the same report every month
  • Guess, because asking takes too long

After

  • Ask the question as you'd say it
  • Claude writes the query and shows the answer
  • Follow up in the same chat
  • Nothing changes in the database

Things you can ask

Copy one into Claude once the server is connected.

  • Which products sold best this quarter?
  • Which customers ordered last year but not this year?
  • What's running low on stock?
  • How many orders did we get each week in October?
  • What's the average order value by country?
  • Which tables hold customer data?

Set it up

Works with MySQL, MariaDB and PostgreSQL. You need the database's host, name, a user and its password, ideally for a user that can only read.

Skip the setup: import the ready-made server

  1. Download the file.
  2. In GetMCP, open Servers, click Import and choose the file.
  3. Add your database's connection details: keys go in the server's Authentication tab, anything else in its connection variables.
  4. Switch on the Gateway and connect Claude to it. To connect to the server's own address instead, create an access key for it first.

Or build it yourself:

  1. Create a server and install the Database template

It adds tools to explore tables and run read-only queries. The tools that change data install switched off.

  2. Add the connection details

In the server's Database settings, enter the host, database name, user and password.

  3. Keep it read-only

The connection starts read-only. Leave it that way unless you need Claude to write.

  4. Turn on the Gateway and connect Claude

Switch on the Gateway in GetMCP, then add your Gateway address to Claude, ChatGPT or Manus as a custom connector and sign in.

run_query Runs a read-only query and returns the rows No
get_rows Fetches rows from a table without SQL No
count_rows Counts rows, optionally matching a filter No
insert_row Adds a row; installs switched off Yes

Questions about this setup

Can Claude change or delete data?

Not by default. The connection starts read-only, and the tools that insert, update or delete install switched off.

Do I need to know SQL?

No. Claude writes the queries from your question, and get_rows fetches rows without any SQL.

Should I use my main database user?

Better not. Create a user that can only read, so the database itself refuses any change.
